Boke Hāgiē̼os

Boke Hāgiē̼os (/həˑg/ /j̼os/ [treason] [different; other; distinct; various]) is a subtropical Large City located in the Qùkēi̊v Region of the Tetburland.

The name Boke Hāgiē̼os is derived from the Sylvin language, as Boke Hāgiē̼os was founded by Ma̋g Gō̄sh 'Iris Bug' Sërm Séch Ha̋chvēsh, who was culturaly Tauran.

Climate

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a yearly average temperature of 23°C (73°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 32°C (89°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 14°C (57°F). Boke Hāgiē̼os receives an average of 212 cm/y (83 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the fall. Boke Hāgiē̼os covers an area of nearly 114 km² (45 mi²), and an average elevation of 2164 m (7099 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Boke Hāgiē̼os was founded durring the early 13th century in fall of the year 1238, by Ma̋g Gō̄sh 'Iris Bug' Sërm Séch Ha̋chvēsh. The establishment of the new community went well, though many minor issues had to be solved as time went on. This was enough to delay construction and push back the formal opening ceramony, leading to some embarisment for Ma̋g Gō̄sh 'Iris Bug' Sërm Séch Ha̋chvēsh.

Boke Hāgiē̼os was built using the conventions of Tauran durring the early 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Boke Hāgiē̼os is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Boke Hāgiē̼os is buildings are arranged arround a network of restrictive packed earth streets which form a diagonal shaped grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The city has a defencive wall made from large clay bricks. The wall is constructed to the exact specifications of millitary fortifications, but the nature of its clay brick construction leaves it vulnerable to even outdated siege equipment. That said, the city is well defended against anything short of an army. Boke Hāgiē̼os's brittle defences are in an unremarkable state. To some, this is the ideal sate for defences to be in. In need of absoutly nothing, and ready to serve the city as needed.

A look around Boke Hāgiē̼os shows Boke Hāgiē̼os as a den of corruption. Birbes can be seen changing hands openly, such that it must be customary to do so and must have been for a long time. The locals have no fear, no annoyance at the state of things, it simply is. The city has another layer to it as well. Locals can be overheard having academic discussions, as well as talking about scholarly subjects in general. It’s quite clear Boke Hāgiē̼os places a lot of value on education and being a learned individual, or at least, faking it.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a Hall of Slayers, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Boke Hāgiē̼os's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has an Administrative Academy which trains individuals in the administrative arts.

Boke Hāgiē̼os possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Large City. Boke Hāgiē̼os's grid is powered by mana accumulators.

Boke Hāgiē̼os possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. In spite of the Galvanic Grid, these lights continue to use their old fule sources to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a first rate hospital which caters to anyone in need of long term medical care.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a library, which keeps a large collection of books, scrolls, and archives all manner of physical items. While not open to the public, the librarians and scholars employed by the library will assist anyone with their research needs, and wealthy individuals can purchase membership to access the library's materials themselves. In spite of being generally closed to the public, the library has a room with several Aether Linked devices available to the public during business hours.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Boke Hāgiē̼os's natural decorations nor waterways.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Boke Hāgiē̼os has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Boke Hāgiē̼os's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known for its fluid and florid elaborate style, comprising ornate, asymmetric designs and pastel shades. It is often considered to be a playful, light style, which made exuberant use of curves and emphasized subtle asymmetry in the general shape of its structures. Walls, ceilings and moldings are decorated with numerous interlacing of curves and counter-curves based on the shapes of ‘C’ and ‘S’, along with shell forms and other naturalistic shapes.

In Boke Hāgiē̼os most nights are accompanied by colorful ribbons of light in the sky.

The Ifrit near Boke Hāgiē̼os are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Boke Hāgiē̼os's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves bloodletting to channel Chronomancy energies of tier 3 via recitation of scripture.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century Boke Hāgiē̼os was struck by a devistating earthquake. The quake brought ruin to Boke Hāgiē̼os, which lost 157 people, 280 livestock, and 77 buildings in the earthquake. The day of the quake is remembered by many as Heartache's Day.
